What Would Happen If You Put Top Grade Fuel Into A Ford Expedition?
If you put TOP GRADE FUEL (93 Octane – Super) or (98 Octane – RACING FUEL) into a Ford Expedition with a 5.4 Liter Triton V8 Engine…what would happen?

I don’t think you can safely run racing fuel in that car. And from what I understand only the “luxury” cars need the top grade fuel in them. So you’d be wasting your money!

RyRy is right I don’t know how many times i’ve posted that same answer in short high compression high octane. Your exped. low compression. Get it?

It would damage the engine… it would run too hot.

not much, honestly if you want better gas mileage and perforence, use the middle grade gas. I drive a lot with my 5.4 and I experimented and found the middle is the most cost effective

better engine function if i am not mistaken

the differance is about 15 cents

The computer in your Expedition will adjust to the high octane fuel and most likely it wont run as smoothly as it normally does. Any gas over 87 octane isnt recommended as the octane number indicates its resistance to burning. High octane fuel is usually required in high compression engines and turbo or supercharged cars. Save your money and buy regular unleaded.

BOOM !

It will run like it always did, and you will have spent to much on fuel.

Not much. It will just burn up faster then the 89 or 87 octane. You might though feel It responds alittle better, like with acceleration.

Since the Expedition is not designed for turning high-RPM’s, and lacks a high compression engine, you would be just pissing your money away.

You would be wasting a lot of money. Those vehicles are designed to run on 87 octane unleaded. The only reason to run higher octane is to prevent pre-ignition but that doesn’t happen in most cars today because compression ratios aren’t high enough to cause it and timing is all computer controlled anyway.

only thing it will hurt is your wallet……….

Nothing.
The octane rating represents RESISTANCE TO PRE-IGNITON or knocking.
That’s it. It isn’t the percentage of “magic horsepower forumla” in the gas like people think it is.
All high octane does is resist pre-ignition or knocking in performance engines.
NOTE: An engine designed to run on 93 octane will have LESS performance running on 87 octane. An engine designed to run on 87 octane will NOT have more performance running on 93 or 98 or anything else. Performance will be the same.
Use the octane recommended in your owners manual. Anything more than that will have no effect whatsoever for an unmodified engine. If you has a modified 5.4 with a turbo or supercharger etc. then you would probably need more octane, but in this case it makes no difference.

It will run exactly the same, because the cars PCM (engine computer) will sense the change in octane and adjust the fuel mixture so it will run exactly the same. HOPE THIS HELPS!!
