You can drag race anything, but a good starting spot is a V-8 powered, rear wheel drive car like a Ford Mustang or Chevy Camaro. Hondas are also popular. Pick a car with lots of aftermarket speed parts available. Years ago I picked up a 1982 Olds Cutlass for nothing. These cars are common and parts are cheap. I started drag racing it in bone stock form. Over the years I stripped out the interior and took off every unnecessary part to lighten it up. I swapped out the stock Olds engine for a small block Chevy and am currently working on building up the engine. I have less than $2,500 tied up in the car so far. You can also do this to a good Honda or something similar. Turbo kits are pretty common for those cars. A good idea is to hang out at the drag strip, see what is the most popular car out there, and find out what you want to race.
