LS1 Trans Ams are low 13 second cars. I’ve also seen them with just drag radials and a cat back exhaust system run high 12’s. This race would be determined by the drivers ability.

Some people here need to get a clue…what does the ECU you have to do with anything when talking about the Civic, what does the weight have to do with anything? The poster already knows what the Civic runs at the track, low 13’s. Low 13’s is low 13’s regardless if it’s old school muscle or a big turbo w/fancy engine management system. BTW, the LS1 has its fair share of technology too.
If you can drive well then it’ll be close, a good running LS1 Fbody “should” be good for low 13’s at the track with a good driver. What area of the country are you in?

Why is your profile name “Civic Man” if you have a Trans Am?! Have you ever taken your Trans Am down a track before? It sounds like that kid is a avid racer, meaning that you probably won’t beat him if you’re a amateur. Ideally, it should be close but but don’t expect anything to be ideal. As long as you get a good launch and aren’t “squirrely” off the line, you should be able to beat/match him. I’d recommend practicing at the track first before you try to be a cool guy and embarrass yourself.

if both drivers are equally talented no. because the fuel management system of a civic is very advanced and not to forget that it has a race tuned ECU which pushes the car in a burst of acceleration. firebird is a bit old school which means that it will largely depend on raw power to drive but the civic has all the tricks in the book. and is more teched up.

If its a manual than it will be close but If I was you I would get a set of drag radials then you can launch the car harder and have less wheel spin. The Civic only weighs like 2,000 pounds (if its a early 90’s 2 door) and with 240HP it will be close. You just have to hope that your good old American V8 has the torque to beat him.

If you have a set of drag radials or slicks, and know how to launch it, I think the TA would win. These cars were capable of low 13’s from the factory, and traction was the limiting factor.

He will prohably beat you….his car is lighter but your car will last longer and cost a lot less to fix. By the time his car is 10 years old it will be junk unless he spends a fortune on it.

If he can hook, he could probably take you. HOWEVER, Hondas are known for having traction issues at launch, even with slicks, so you have a good shot.

yes it could!
