    the problem with the other answers is that they are half true: it depends on what mr2 and celica you are talking about. first off the 2nd gen mr2s were way heavier than the 1st gen. so you would have to offsett that weight by the gts mr2 twin turbo. they were amazing. way ahead of its time. very quick and its not rear wheel drive its midengine (totally different). in terms of the celica – its lighter than a mr2 but there were also 4 types the st, gt, gts and gt4. the st and gt were tame but the gts and gt4 had the 3sge same as the mr2. and the mr2 gts and celica gt4 were 3sgte (turbo) so they would be the best as to power to weight ratio. the problem with the gt4 is that they are hard to find. if i had to chose which was best it would be the mr2 gts – but the gt4 would be amazing off the line with the lsd and alltrac.

    neither. the celica is slow and FWD, the MR2 is a roadster meant for track use and corners.
    if you want a good straight line car, get a 5.0 mustang. theyre dirt cheap, parts are very inexpensive, and can be made very fast for very little money.
    Or get an LS1 based F-body (camaro SS or trans am or firebird formula, 99 or newer). theyre more expensive to start with, but have monsterous potential.

    MR2-with a 3SGTE- (Turbo)- Very light- to much HP and youll break everytime…
    CELICA- with a 3SGTE-(Turbo)- All wheel drive will give you a great rush at the start- but with the added weight of the AWD setup- the MR2 will catch you around halfway down the track!!!!
    MR2-with 3SGE- Will beat a Celica with the same engine- due to the weight ratio.
    My choice is a Celica!!!!!
    but Toyotas are just great!!!

    first off, no one has mentioned that the mr2 also came in various models, a naturally asperated 5s-fe 2.2L engine and a 3s-gte tubo. Get an early 90s mr2 then swap in a new 1MZ-FE 3.0L V6 motor and add a TRD supercharger, it has been done. the swap will require fabricating new motor mounts, but when it is done you will have about 300 horsepower in this incredibly light car and you will FLY down the track.

    I would not recommend either one of these cars. Although the MR2 is faster 0-60 than a 5.0 Stang. The stang will hold up better in the long run with drag racing, PLUS the parts are READILY available and CHEAP. PLUS there is no substitute for torque and horsepower when it comes to drag racing and you will be severely limited in the amount of power you can produce from the MR2 enegine, UNLESS you have deep pockets. Just so you know, I have an 1984 Supra and easily outruns MR2’s all day long,,, and it’s not too far from stock.

    neither one, those cars are jokes, if its a road race, European, Quartermile, American made muscle. Want milage, then you buy asian.

    toyota mr2 i belive is lighter which would be good if u are goin to swap motors… celice is heavier but has better motor

    Now this idiot that says american muscle is better:
    1993 Ford Mustang GT 0-60=8.0 1/4m= 16.1

    Well if the money isnt a concern, id look into the 90-93 celica GT-four.

    4wd
    limited slip diff
    But your probably going to have to find one in canada, or import one from japan.
    if your wanting a car available in america, i would go after the mr2. Its rear wheel drive.

    Have you ever seen a Toyota on a strip? No, if you did, slap the dick drivin it. get a mustang 5.0 like the other guy said, or get a ‘69 camaro and put a turbo on top.
