What Makes People Think Nascar Is Not A Sport? What About Nhra Drag Racing ?
I would love to know what makes people think that NASCAR is not a sport..Is it that they think that ‘oh it’s a regular car, it’s just as easy as a Sunday drive!’ Is it that NASCAR came from a somewhat dubious beginning in an area that some people tend to hate or be ignorant about? Or is it that it’s not a stick-and-ball sport so it’s not cool somehow….or is it that some people are so ‘instant gratification’ minded that they don’t bother with a sport that’s more than ‘turning left’ and ’round and round in circles’ and they would rather not learn about the technical side of racing, in other words exactly how, what, and who makes those cars run and what NASCAR racing actually is made up of? Or is it uncool or not correct somehow to like it? Do you feel the same about NHRA drag racing’Oh it’s just cars going down some dragstrip’?

NASCAR is a sport. no matter what all you haters think. it is. try & drive 500 laps no time outs, no nothing. try and not crash, try and save yourself if you do crash. NHRA is also a sport. trust me my uncle & dad are both in it. try going up to like 200mph stright and not crashing into the person next to you. both NHRA & NASCAR are BOTH sports not matter what any of you say =]

500 laps at Bristol with no time outs, no breaks puts more strain on the human body than ANY ball game. I can play baseball, I can’t drive 150mph in a 1/2 mi. circle.

because driving is so easy and they think motor racing is like daily driving, only faster. what they dont realize is that motor racing is very different from driving, just that both cars and race cars have steering wheels and four tires

Personally NASCAR and NHRA drags don’t rank high on my list of sports, and I’m all about motor racing. The thing is that motoring involves much much more then left turns, high speed, and fast acceleration. With NASCAR and NHRA, they are so focused on those few ideas of motoring that it just seems silly. And what’s with the deal in NASCAR that the only way to win is to bump the car infront and almost make them crash? If that’s motor racing then no thanks..
Check out the WRC sometime.. that’s all about total balance and car control over different types of surfaces. That’s what I consider a motor sport.
BTW, just because something is hard to do dosen’t make it a sport. It hard to stay awake for several days at a time, so would all you NASCAR supporters call that a sport?

Get with it people… NASCAR is almost as bogus as WWF. First of all, the name NASCAR has Stock Car in the middle of it, but they have about as much to do with stock cars as my fanny does. Secondly, what’s up with the races? why do we have to endure 3 hours the same thing, which is basically opportunities for the drivers to put each other out of the race? Is this a competition to see who can last the longest, has the best luck, and manages not to get crunched, or is it a race to see who is the fastest?
Also, there are so many rules that the competition has really been watered down. It has gotten pretty monotonous to watch.
Drag racing? That’s fine for what it is… a team effort to get the car ready and let the driver do his thing. The concept is the same no matter what you are racing, and it can be pretty fun.
Real racing is done on the Formula 1 circuit. Each builder brings their best (that they built), and the teams go out and employ a strategy to try to best the field. F1 is about 10x more challenging than NASCAR, that’s why there are so few NASCAR drivers who can cut it in the real big league.
Indy 500? That’s not NASCAR, that is IRL. A whole different set of problems there, but at least it is funner to watch.
Cheers!

People that think racing is not a sport have never really thought about what makes up a sport. The defination from the dictionary:
Sport:
1. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
2. A particular form of this activity.
# An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
# An active pastime; recreation.
I think auto racing fits in the bounds of this defination. Therefore it must be a sport.
